Get in touch with us nowIn the period from October 2022 to September 2023, an estimated 433,700 metric tons of olive oil were consumed in Italy. This was a slight decreas ecompared to the previous year. In the crop year 2023/2024, 420,000 tons of olive oil were forecast to be consumed. Worldwide production of olive oil amounted to around 2.3 million metric tons.
Regular consumers
Italians are regular consumers of olive oil. Results of a survey conducted in 2017 indicated that 91 percent of them consumed it daily. In 2018, another poll showed that in 85 percent of cases, they purchased extra virgin olive oil. This commonly consumed olive oil is extracted mechanically from olives and has less than 0.8 percent acidity.
Directly from the producer
A survey about purchase channels of olive oil in Italy revealed that in 2017, a significant share of households bought olive oil directly from the producer. Interestingly enough, 91.1 percent of respondents of the same poll consumed a limited amount (about ten percent) of their own produced olive oil.
